The Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese is one of the oldest if not the oldest pub in the City of London, although the Hoop & Grapes has a claim to that title. Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese takes you back in time to the 17th century and you really feel you are experiencing a piece of history. This pub is very popular with the locals and tourists, with an excellent list of Samuel Smiths beers to keep even the most ardent CAMRA enthusiast happy. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, there are a multitude of rooms, stairs, nooks & crannies. The ground floor has a chophouse and restaurant so you can enjoy the surrounding and good food.

Rebuilt after the Great Fire in 1668 means there is a lot of history here, much as been written, I've found a couple of interest; the first house that sold whisky in London, copies of the chair in which, tradition has it, Dr Johnson used where available to order in oak at £5 and even in the mid twentieth century saw dust was still used on the wooden floors.

Visiting Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese is a must for anyone working or just visiting the City of London.
