Introducing fine dining without real ale to the residents of the Barbican is the Wood Street Bar & Restaurant. Located in the southern side of the Barbican complex at the junction of Wood Street and Fore Street, just a stones throw from St Giles Cripplegate. The focus here is firmly on excellent food and fine wine, rather than beer, although it's still possible to by a lager at the bar and enjoy a light bar snack. The menu is impressive, although I've not been lucky enough to enjoy it myself. Set within the Barbican complex itself, Wood Street offers lovely views from it's ground floor, there is also a downstairs which is open for busier periods. After your lunch or dinner take a stroll alone Fore Street where you will find a plaque marking the first bomb to fall on the City in the Second World War, 12:15am on the 25th August 1940. |
