Refurbished
this year (2005) The Railway Tavern (or if you're a local The CowShed)
is looking good, if not posh and up market. The service is
always fast and friendly no matter how busy the main bar gets. The building
itself is mid-Victorian built in 1877, the main ground floor bar, which
was called the Pulman Lounge and is now Platform 19, is large and open,
upstairs is the Engine Room (although not stocked with the same beers
as downstairs) where you can eat and lounge. Off to one end of the main
bar is the smaller City Bar, this has a lovely sprial stair case leading
to a few more tables and chairs which are just off the Engine Room. The
food is good and there is Karaoke on Friday nights. |
