The Jugged Hare stands at the western end of the Whitbread Brewery, a Grade II listed brewery that had brewed beer for some 225 years, until 1976. The King's Arms was the name on the frontage, only a few year ago a couple of pints and a packet of crisps was enough to see you through Friday until home time. Things are very different now, a 'theatre' kitchen serving seasonal British game, wild fish and shellfish washed down with complex mature wines from an extensive list. I am sure the Samuel Pepys would have felt at home in such a place. They do also serve beer, so for those that find wine a little too complex a pint of Adnams Bitter, amongst others, is available. |
