Just a stones through from Smithfield Meet Market and the northern limit of the City of London you can find the wonderfully traditional pub of the Rising Sun. Being a Sam Smiths pubs you will find Stouts, Wheat beer and lager such as 'Alpine' at the bar. The interior has a lovely traditional feel, plenty of wood paneling and a verity of seating, upstairs carries on the cozy traditional feel with the with of a real fire.
As with all City pubs, things get very busy on a Thursday and Friday evening and it's a lovely to see the alley and Cloth Fair packed with summer drinkers.

Although the Rising Sun is a little short on heritage, Cloth Fair has plenty of history. Just a few yards to the east you can find two buildings that have survived the Great Fire of London in 1666. The houses at numbers 41 and 42 were built between 1597 and 1614. Preserved from the Great Fire only because of being enclosed by the wall of the priory. Head east about 100 yeads or so and you reach the Hand & Shears another City pub.

St. Bartholomew-the-Great church is opposite the entrance to the Rising Sun and I highly recommend a visit if you are able, there is a small entrance charge, but the interior is something very special and well worth the cost.
