A must on the City of London
pub list to visit. The Hoop & Grapes is said to be the only surviving
timber-framed 17th Century building in the City. It survived the Great
Fire of london in 1666 by only a few yard, after the fire wooden building
were forbidden to be built. It was converted to a pub about
150 years ago, which mean we can enjoy the building today.
Work in the 1980's supports the leaning front which has a uniquely aged beauty.
There is a blocked up cellar entrance which is said to lead to the Tower
of London. The rear has been extended to offer a larger bar and seating.
There's always a good selection of real ales and good food. |
