The Wild Swan

The Wild Swan, 99 Fetter Lane, Holborn, City of London, EC4A 1ES

The Wild Swan doesn’t so much open as re-emerge—rising from the former haunts of the Printer’s Devil and the White Swan with a polished sense of purpose. Built into the Edenica development by Fletcher Priest Architects, it pairs City ambition with an eco-conscience, proudly holding the UK’s first BREEAM Excellent pub status.

The vivid blue glazed bricks outside aren’t just eye-catching; they quietly nod to Fetter Lane’s printing past, turning the façade into a kind of ceramic storytelling device. Inside, the mood shifts to something richly theatrical: dark timber, brass and glass lighting, and a sweeping staircase leading to a mezzanine that feels part balcony, part observation deck. At its centre, a striking stained-glass swan glows like a house emblem, anchoring a space that blends Victorian nostalgia with modern polish. It’s a confident design—less pastiche, more reinterpretation—with just enough drama to elevate a casual pint into an occasion. Behind the bar, Thornbridge Brewery brings serious intent, delivering a strong cask lineup alongside thoughtful keg and wine options. Jaipur shines, others intrigue, and the overall offer leans refreshingly beyond the predictable. Early crowds may be more student than City, and the late hours might test the neighbourhood’s stamina, but The Wild Swan already feels like a pub with momentum—rooted in history, engineered for the future, and best judged with a pint in hand.
